Personal essay
Sitting in the warm room of his home alone queuing up for another game of ranked, Cody dreads the idea of getting last pick support again. “If only I could get middle of the pick order so I could play something else.” he thinks to himself. All he wants is to climb up into silver and be able to quit worrying about people ruining the game. He has been at it for 3 hours this time around, 1 win 2 losses, and he is starting to get discouraged. He has played support for people who can’t play 2 games in a row now. It’s sunday and he played for 6 hours on saturday and made it from bronze 2 to bronze 1, it’s so close, he can feel it. The bass sounds saying that a game has been found. As it loads into the lobby he begs the game to not give him last pick. First! He got first pick and rejoices. He quickly informs everyone in the in game chat that he will be jungling and bans the same 3 champions as he always does. Ekko, LeBlanc, and Gragas will not be played this game. Anyone else they can deal with but he doesn't want to fight those 3. The enemy team also banned Volibear and Sejuani meaning he can’t play one of his better junglers. He thinks of who he needs to pick to secure them the easy victory. He is going to pick his personal favorite even though it might not be the best pick currently, Rammus. He chooses his skin for the game and decides to go a little bit old school and pick the Molten Rammus skin even though he has the newer, better, skin. His team chooses their champions and so does the enemy team. He isn’t too worried about paying attention to either teams picks except for the enemy junglers because he wants to know what path he is gonna need to take in his jungle. Shaco, the enemy jungler picked Shaco. There's no escaping the fact that he has been counter picked as good as it gets. He takes a deep breath and doesn’t let it go to his head. “We still win teamfights so its fine I just have to not get caught early.” he thinks.
League of Legends is a team based top down view MOBA style game that promotes teamwork and counterplay to keep the game fair and fun. it has many strategies to allow a team to win. 2 teams of 5 struggle for control of the 3 lanes and 2 “jungles” and allow themselves to take out the enemy teams Nexus.
The game begins and he immediately heads into his jungle to make sure the Shaco cannot ambush him when he isn’t expecting it. A good Shaco will ambush the enemy team in their jungle utilizing the fog of war to their advantage, a great Shaco however will do so in places you wouldn’t expect them to be. See the problem with Shaco is that he has the ability to turn invisible and run around that way for a few seconds in order to get a better position. Shaco thrives in the early levels of the game where he can easily use his poison daggers and invisibility to maneuver and out damage the enemy. Rammus on the other hand is a late game tank that relies on his speed and health to survive and set up kills. Early game, Rammus, has neither of these things and has a very low damage output at all points in the game making it incredibly easy for Shaco to kill him at the early stages of the game. As he makes his early clear he gets a bad feeling and avoids the path he was originally going to take. Avoiding this path allows him to get away without dying and puts his team at an advantage when he goes in and helps his bottom lane get an early kill. they go on to win the game without a struggle because of his great jungling choice early game and they have such superior team fighting that they push to end in a matter of 20 minutes. Just another example of how great his jungling is.
